A Latke Toppings Board for Chanukah

A rustic wooden board filled with Chanukah latke toppings arranged in small ceramic bowls, including labneh, caramelized onions, pickled red onions, pomegranate seeds, candied nuts, feta, herbs, lemon wedges, and everything bagel seasoning, with golden crispy latkes placed alongside. The scene is styled on a soft linen cloth with warm, natural lighting for a cozy farmhouse feel.

Here’s a cute idea to add to your Chanukah traditions.

If a charcuterie board gives you endless little bites to graze on, a topping board is more like the supporting cast of the main event. And the main event, forever and always, is those warm, crispy latkes coming straight out of the pan. A topping board helps everyone build their perfect bite — lots of mix-ins, add-ons, and creative combinations.

There’s something about a board that instantly slows the room down. Maybe it’s the little bowls, or the warm latkes, or the way people lean in and start assembling their plate. It’s simple hosting, but it feels like a moment — a pause in the middle of winter where we gather around warmth and light.

This year, instead of setting out jars and containers, I’m planning to build a full Latke Toppings Board. Everything in one place, everything beautiful, everything inviting. It’s a mix of classics and a few fresh ideas, and honestly, it makes any Chanukah night feel a little more special.

The Classics

Applesauce. Sour cream.
The non-negotiables. They anchor the whole board.

Fresh Herbs

Chives, dill, parsley — just a little brightness to balance all the cozy, fried goodness. If you want to elevate the look, leave a few whole sprigs on the board.

Pickled Red Onions

These take minutes and add the prettiest color to the table. They also cut through the richness in the best way.

Make It Your Own

Here’s your chance to add your own spin. Use anything that adds color, texture, and fun. Some ideas:

  • Candied nuts — a little sweet, a little crunch
  • Pomegranate seeds — jewel-toned and bright
  • Caramelized onions — soft, golden, cozy
  • Feta crumbles — salty and perfect
  • Lemon wedges — a squeeze of acid makes everything sing
  • Microgreens — tiny, fresh, and very pretty
  • Everything bagel seasoning — people love sprinkling this on anything
  • Labneh — thick, tangy; swirl in a bit of olive oil for that Magnolia touch

I like to place everything on a wooden board. Little bowls, a few herb sprigs, and enough open space that the board doesn’t feel crowded. It’s simple, but the textures do all the work — the warmth of the wood, the softness of the linen, the shine of the pomegranate.

And of course, leave room on the board (or nearby) for fresh, hot latkes. That’s the heart of the whole thing.

It’s easy. It’s beautiful. It feels intentional without being fussy. And most of all: it invites people in.

Everyone builds their own bite — sweet, spicy, creamy, crunchy — and suddenly the table is full of small conversations and little flavors and that unmistakable Chanukah glow.

It’s cozy, it’s communal, and it’s exactly what this season is about.A rustic wooden board filled with Chanukah latke toppings arranged in small ceramic bowls, including labneh, caramelized onions, pickled red onions, pomegranate seeds, candied nuts, feta, herbs, lemon wedges, and everything bagel seasoning, with golden crispy latkes placed alongside.
